Doctors in the U.S. perform the country’s first successful face transplant

Connie Culp is best described as an inspiration to all people who face unimaginable obstacles in life. Five years ago she was shot in the face by her husband, leaving her with unsightly facial deformities. Her husband then turned the gun on himself. The most egregious part of the story is the fact that he survived and was sentenced to a measly seven-year prison. One would argue that he deserved a much longer sentence for attempted murder.

Connie’s life has not been easy. For years, she had no nose and had to depend on a feeding tube. But after 30 surgeries by incredible doctors in the U.S, her face has been transformed, and normality is restored to her life.

Doctors in Ohio used the face of a woman who had recently passed away, and transplanted it onto Connie’s face. Connie now has a nose, she can taste food, and no longer has to deal with a feeding tube.

Most people in Connie’s predicament would give up on life all together. But she continued to push forward, making her an inspiration to people worldwide.
